How to Achieve Your New Year’s Resolutions and Goals

Happy New Year! We have all wanted something in our lifetime, and we have all probably experienced both the bitter taste of rejection and the sweet taste of getting what we want. Although many might believe that getting what you want is dependent on luck, there are certain things that separate high achievers. If you are to get what we want, you should set goals, and use strategies that allow you not only to influence people so you achieve what you want, but also get you closer to your wildest dreams.

Set goals

Before launching an arrow, you need to know where you are aiming at and visualize the target. Similarly, you need to know what you want if you want to get it. Thus, setting goals is crucial.

Here are seven steps for effective goal setting that will set you up to achieve your dreams:

Step 1: Believe in yourself

If you want to be a high-achiever, you need to avoid settling and instead believe you can have what you want and that you can achieve your goals. Don’t let other people tell you what you can and can’t have.

Step 2: Shoot for the moon

Since you can have it, aim for the moon. Embrace impossible goals and don’t limit yourself to small ones.

However, if you think that your mental health will be negatively affected if you fail to achieve your impossible goals, then choose more realistic goals.

Step 3: Love it

Fall in love with your goal and be passionate about it. Ask yourself, do you really want your goal, or are you aiming for what someone else wants? If you are not truly passionate about your goal, then change it.

Step 4: Write it

Write down your goal in order to achieve clarity and have a reminder of what you are aiming for.

Step 5: Visualize it

Imagine yourself having achieved your goal. Fantasize about your wildest dreams. This will help keep your goal in mind throughout the process of getting what you want.

Step 6: Break it down

If you followed step two, then achieving your goal might seem impossible. Break your goal down into manageable steps that you can put to action, but don’t forget your larger goal. Follow through with these smaller steps.

Step 7: Goal friend

Get a friend and tell them about your goal. Brainstorm together about what actions you can take and make your friend hold you accountable to your goal. Report your progress.

Now that you know what you want, how do you get it?

Influencing people and achieving your dreams

Although many strategies of manipulating people to get what you want are regarded as ‘evil’, there are certain ones that are not; and there are certain ways to get what you want, that don’t even involve manipulating people. Many of these strategies, don’t only make you a more suitable candidate for whatever it is you are asking for, but they are also crucial strategies to help you achieve your goals.

Ask

Sounds obvious? Yet this is probably the most crucial step to getting people to do what you want. If you don’t ask, they might never know you want it. When you are asking, make sure you are clear, confident and concise.

Don’t apologize

You have probably heard or used the phrase “sorry to bother but…” and although people generally use this to sound polite, it makes you seem unconfident which in turn might make the person that you are asking unsure about granting your wish. So stop apologizing every time you ask for something, even if you are talking to someone higher up. You can be polite without adding that phrase.

Your gain is their gain

Although many people might be willing to help for the sake of being kind, others may be entrapped in that “what’s in it for me?” attitude. So make sure the person you are asking something from sees your victory as their victory. Think about how you getting what you want might mean something good for them, and use this as a selling point.

Be an asset

Making yourself irreplaceable makes people more likely to want to keep you, and to keep you happy.

Work Hard

Working hard not only gets you closer to that goal and to being invaluable, but it also makes people respect you. Working as hard as you can melts people’s hearts and gets them seeing how motivated and valuable you really are. When people respect and like you, they are more likely to give you what you want. Furthermore, if you are to achieve your goals, you must work hard.

Be passionate

Show people that you really want to achieve something. No matter how qualified you are, if people think that you don’t truly care about whatever it is you are asking for, why should they give it to you?

Ready?

Are you really ready for what you are asking for? Dreaming about it and actually managing the responsibility of what is given are not the same thing. Know the responsibilities that come with what you are asking, and be prepared for them. If you aren’t ready for something, but still ask for it and are granted your wish, and are unable to handle the responsibility, people might be less likely to give you what you want next time.

Persevere

Thomas Edison once said: “I have not failed. I’ve just found 10,000 ways that won’t work.” Considering that he is sometimes regarded as America’s greatest inventor, take his advice and persevere. You might not be given whatever it is you are looking for right away, but continue trying new ways to get what you want, and you might someday achieve it. If you try once and give up, people might not take you seriously.

I have not failed. I’ve just found 10,000 ways that won’t work.”

Thomas Edison

Furthermore, perseverance doesn’t only get people to give you what you want, but it is also crucial to achieve your ultimate goal. In the process of getting what you want, you will most likely face problems and hurdles, shoulder on and you will be closer to your desired outcome.

Fix it

Don’t just ignore problems and wait for someone else to fix them later. Waiting for something to get fixed exacerbates the problem and makes it that much harder to be fixed later on. Take action and get it fixed now! This not only helps you succeed because it maximizes the quality of your output, but it also helps you be respected in the eyes of others and it might even make you invaluable, thus making people more likely to give you what you want.

Be grateful

Be grateful for what you have. Achieving what you want might be difficult, so be grateful for the hurdles that you face and use them to advance your goals. Furthermore, if you are unable to achieve your goals, the process of trying makes you a better person and so be grateful for that. Stand up and try to again. Good luck!

New year resolutions and goals are a common way for individuals to set intentions for self-improvement and personal growth. While it can be easy to make these resolutions, it can be more challenging to actually achieve them. Here is a summary of tips for how to achieve your new year resolutions and goals:

  1. Make specific and achievable goals: It is important to be specific and realistic when setting goals, as this can make them easier to achieve. Instead of making a vague resolution like “lose weight,” set a specific goal such as “lose 10 pounds in 6 months.”
  2. Create a plan: Having a plan in place can help you stay on track and make progress towards your goals. This may involve setting smaller, achievable milestones along the way or creating a schedule or routine to help you stay organized.
  3. Seek support: It can be helpful to enlist the support of friends, family, or a professional coach or counselor to help you stay motivated and accountable. Sharing your goals with others can also provide accountability and a sense of community.
  4. Stay motivated: Staying motivated can be a challenge, especially if you encounter setbacks or obstacles along the way. It can be helpful to find ways to stay motivated, such as by reminding yourself of the benefits of achieving your goals or finding ways to reward yourself as you make progress.
  5. Be flexible: It is important to be flexible and willing to make adjustments to your plan as needed. If you find that a particular goal or resolution is not achievable or not the right fit for you, it is okay to reassess and make changes.
  6. Don’t give up: Finally, it is important to persevere and not give up on your goals, even if you encounter setbacks or challenges. It is okay to have setbacks, but it is important to stay committed to your goals and continue to work towards them.

In conclusion, achieving new year resolutions and goals requires setting specific and achievable goals, creating a plan, seeking support, staying motivated, being flexible, and not giving up. By following these tips, you can increase your chances of success and make progress towards your personal growth and self-improvement. Happy New Year!
